In May 2015, Public Safety became a Program of Distinction through the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS). Security Magazine’s Security 500 consistently ranks the Security Division one of the top 500 programs in the country.

In June 2015, the South Carolina Police Accreditation Coalition (SCPAC) awarded the department with state law enforcement accreditation. In 2019, the department received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement (CALEA).
